AT Day 35

April 25, 2021 (16.5 miles)

Jerry Cabin Shelter – Hogback Ridge Shelter

Today was a really great day! Started off not so great, really wet and cold, but thankfully I was warm and dry overnight in the shelter snuggled up between Ranger and Sheppard. I followed Bug Bite out of camp and the entire trail was socked in; it was crazy foggy. The trail took a positive turn when we had a photoshoot at Big Butt Bypass with Sheppard, then descended for several miles before an early lunch.

Iconic photo opportunity at Big Butt Bypass

I’m glad Bug Bite and I are on the same itinerary, it’s nice to have someone else to make a game plan with instead of just going alone. We got trail magic from Hokey Pokey’s parents at Devil’s Fork Gap, they came up to visit from CLT and hand an amazing selection. His mom made banana bread and delicious sandwiches, they even had chocolate milk!

The climb out of that gap was brutal, but I felt strong and was proud of myself for kicking butt. The sun came out in the afternoon and it was beautiful, the trail was so green and I was on the ridge for the last few miles of the day.

Dumb Horse and Creature are on our schedule, the rest of the tramily is a day ahead. Rocket and her partner are at the shelter, along with Wilson, Rewind, Shredder, Hokey, and others. Really good day!
