Stealth Site – Niday Shelter
What a big, good day! I’ve spent a lot of time questioning why I’m putting myself through this, but today was so good and reminded me how fun it is to be out here. I woke up early and left camp before DQ and hiked down to a shelter for 2nd breakfast. The climb up Kelly Knob was long and tough, but I felt strong and was proud of myself for charging up the mountain without many breaks. I can tell a huge difference in my strength and endurance.

DQ caught up to me and we checked out the view and “crevasse” at Kelly Knob before chatting over a break. We headed down to the next shelter for lunch and were reunited with Creature, Dumb Horse, and Biscuit (Party Dave is MIA which is to be expected).
After lunch, I listened to music and hiked with DQ and Biscuit through some pretty cow pastures. We came to a bridge and decent creek and I went swimming (it’s like 80+ degrees) with new friends Not So Bad, Noodles, Drafty, and Mowgli Bear. It was the perfect midday break.

The last climb of the day wore me out, but the ridgeline walking had me spent. DQ caught up to me and we hiked together a while, he was also very over it and he threw some very DQ (Drama Queen) temper tantrums. We caught Biscuit, saw a rattlesnake, and finally descended to the shelter. Lots of new faces, I talked to Syphon, Easy Rider, and caught up with Scout Master. Dumb Horse and Creature are here, and I am happy and ready to reach Dragon’s Tooth tomorrow!
