Devil’s Backbone Brewing – Brown Mountain Shelter

Today was another nero… I’ve definitely been taking more breaks than anticipated, but it’s worth it! I woke up at the campground at Devil’s Backbone and the whole crew went to breakfast. I sat with Creature, Dumb Horse, Party Dave, Showpony, and Drew’s brother and it was just like old times. We laughed and drank coffee, breakfast was super good (and overpriced just like everything else there).

We went back to camp and tore everything down before saying bye. They really wanted me to get back on trail with them, but I told Sticks and the boys I’d come back so I wanted to follow through. Beast ran a couple of shuttles back and forth to the trailhead so we had to wait for a bit, but we were heading back to Glasgow by 10:30am. Again the ride was super curvy and I felt nauseous, but thankfully no one was car sick.

Beast and I dropped off Green, McFly, Gooey, and Pegasus at the bridge before going back to the shelter in town to pick up Sticks. The boys hiked out this morning, but she didn’t feel good and wanted to do fewer miles so we made a plan together. From the shelter Beast dropped us off 2 miles from the boy’s destination, so we had plenty of time to chill. Once everyone started arriving I felt happy to be back with new friends. Feeling good going into a big mile day tomorrow.
