AT Day 80

June 9, 2021 (20.2 miles)

Manassas Gap Shelter – Sam Moore Shelter

Today was a good day that left me feeling exhausted. It thunderstormed most of the night and I didn’t sleep good, but I enjoyed my fancy new pillow! I knew I wanted to cover bigger miles, so I tried to get up and out early – I felt camp around 6:45am.

I really enjoyed the hike this morning for some reason; it was cool because of the rain and I saw some turtles. I managed to cover 12 miles by noon and ate lunch alone at a shelter. I didn’t mind being by myself but I got super sleepy and was very unmotivated to finish out the day.

Lots of turtles out and about after the rain

Unfortuently the 2nd half of the day was the hardest. I tackled the first half of the “roller coaster” and it absolutely kicked my butt… I hate climbing, and having to gain that much elevation back to back to back left my legs feeling like jelly.

Welcome to the Roller Coaster!

I made it into camp by 5; 20 miles by 5pm! I felt disgustingly sweaty and took a creek bath before putting on my town dress (can’t wait for summer PJs in Harpers!) I had dinner with Turbo and her brothers, Superman, and section hiker Tom. Ready for bed and fewer miles tomorrow.

I hit the 1000 mile marker today in the middle of the Roller Coaster
