AT Day 123

July 23, 2021 (21 miles)

Father Tom’s – Seth Warner Shelter

Today was a big day! We left camp around 7 (our normal time), but didn’t get on the trail until 8ish because we stopped for Dunkin’. It was basically a 9 mile climb up Mount Greylock right off the bat, and the first few miles felt crazy steep and I was NOT feeling it.

I caught up to Sticks and she and I hiked together a majority of the way. We made it to the top around noon and all our friends were there!

Creature and Dumb Horse even showed up and we all ate lunch together and enjoyed the view. It was super sunny and I really enjoyed laying out pretending I was at the beach.

We climbed up to the lookout tower which was underwhelming; there were so many muggles since you can literally drive up to the summit. We dicked around on the summit for almost 2 hours before finally beginning the crazy long descent.

I hiked with Truffles for a while and listened to my audiobook. Right before the VT border, MA gave us one last “fuck you” with a huge rock scramble. I felt like I was never going to make it to the border sign, but the boys were all waiting and we continued waiting for Sticks and Slobber so we could all take a Maine Train picture.

Welcome to Vermont aka Ver-mud

We had a couple of miles after the border before the shelter and we hit the 1,600 mile marker! It was also very underwhelming because there was no sign, but it’s crazy to think there are less than 600 miles to go now…

The unofficial 1,600 mile marker!

We arrived at an absolutely packed shelter/campsite. Thankfully we were able to get tent spots. Lots of nobos, sobos, and Long Trail people makes for crowded camping…
