AT Day 124

July 24, 2021 (22 miles)

Seth Warner Shelter – Glastenbury Fire Tower

Today was just another day on trail. Not a bad day, not a great day, just a day. Our crew figured out that we could take some ATV roads from the shelter to go around a big mountain, so of course, we were game. We do a lot of finagling to try to get out of going uphill.

Thankfully the ATV roads were mostly flat, but there were absolutely COVERED in mud. It made me think back to when dad used to take me four-wheeling as a kid. I walked with Sticks for a while and we chatted, all while climbing in and out of mud holes.

We were on that road for what felt like forever before we turned down what looked like a private driveway and we all thought we were going to get shot. The road straight up ended and we had to do some minor bushwhacking to get to what we thought was an old trail on Guthooks. Thankfully we were able to follow the river and eventually made it to a road near the AT.

We got some awesome trail magic from Voodoo’s family and got to feast on hot dogs and BBQ before climbing the last 10ish miles to the fire tower. Truffles and I hiked together the majority of the way and he helped keep me motivated when I was getting tired and cranky.

Thankfully our group was the only one camped out at the tower and we were able to enjoy the views and have a fun little hangout. I am very tired from the last couple of days… hoping to rest soon.
