AT Day 142

August 11, 2021 (7 miles)

AMC Hut Stealth Site – Mitzba Hut

***I didn’t take any pictures on this day, so these photos are from other days on my hike***

Today ended up being a super unexpected chill day. We got up around 6am and left our stealth spot in the woods behind AMC around 7:30am, just in time to hit the all you can eat breakfast buffet.

Our whole crew ended up hanging out until around 9ish; we discovered the Crawford Notch blue blaze that cut 5 whole miles off the day AND eliminated a huge unnecessary climb so we were all for it in and in no hurry.

The weather in the Whites is crazy unpredictable and there was a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon, so we hit the trail by 9:30am and tried to power up to the hut quickly. I hiked alone and even though it was rocky and steep I was still able to go at a pretty consistent speed and felt good going uphill. The Whites have taught me to tolerate climbs and detest downhills because of how much they hurt my knees.

We made it to the hut/campsite just around 11am and got everything set up quickly because of the potential rain. It didn’t rain a drop and Truffles and I ended up laying in the tent most of the day reading and napping. We talked a lot and it was just a lovely afternoon.

We laid around until dinner and cooked with Hangman. I love hanging out with Truffles and Hangman together because they are just so funny – between their stories and the way they get each other riled up, they’re just a hoot.

We are going to bed early in hopes of leaving early in the morning so that we can get up and over the Presidentials before afternoon storms. Mount Washington tomorrow!
