AT Day 143

August 12, 2021 (15 miles)

Mizpah Hut – Osgood Campsite

We woke up super early and were on trail by 6am. We had a big day in front of us and we absolutely killed it! I hiked all day with Truffles and Hangman so that was really fun.

Once we left the shelter and climbed up (steeply) we were greeted with incredible views. Long range blue hazy mountains in the distance surrounded by clouds, looming rocky specks just ahead of us. It was honestly some of the most breathtaking scenery I’ve ever seen.

The first 5ish miles before Mount Washington were my favorite – the views were great and I felt strong climbing. We stopped at Lake of the Clouds Hut and were able to sweep in exchange for breakfast along with Creature and Dumb Horse. From there it was 1.5 miles seemingly straight up to the Mount Washington summit where we were surrounded by muggles.

After taking our picture by the sign and getting a snack, we pushed over the rest of the Prezies to the Madison Spring Hut (after all the awesome views and trash talking to Cog Train). We got soup and hung out for a while with Creature and Dumb Horse before one final push up Mount Madison.

The descent from the Prezies is infamously bad, and I took my time. Finally, I reached camp and was exhausted. So thankful for gorgeous weather! I’ve dreaded this section forever and I’m so proud to have done it all in a day and to have kicked ass!
