AT Day 165

September 3, 2021 (16 miles)

Cooper Brook Falls – Nahmakanta Shelter

Today was another super easy and chill day. We woke up around 6am and took our time getting ready for the day. Up until recently, we have always been in a rush to get going. These days we’ve been in #norush and it has been fantastic.

We drank coffee and sat around dicking around and didn’t get moving until 9ish. The terrain has been so easy lately – I had no idea the 100MW would be so easy! It takes next to no effort to hike when it’s like this; you can just zone out and go on autopilot. I wonder if when I’m not used to hiking if I’ll enjoy walking on easy terrain again; I used to hike to escape, but now I get bored and need some entertainment and listen to podcasts.

Easy hiking in the 100 Mile Wilderness

Nothing eventful happened while hiking this morning; Truffles and I chatted while we breezed through before lunch. My last resupply and I finally didn’t pack enough food… I’ve been having to skip things or go with less each time I eat… I haven’t been starving but I’m never full. I was starving for lunch by the time we reached the shelter with “the best spring on the AT”. We ate and only had 5ish miles to do after 1pm…

We passed a lake with a great view of Katahdin (except for some clouds), and walked along a beautiful stream on a bed of pine needles. We made it to the shelter for the night by 3pm, and lazied around the shelter reading and napping before dinner. Another early night and easy day ahead.
