AT Day 76

June 5, 2021 (24 miles)

Hightop Hut – Rock Springs Hut

Biggest Day on trail yet! I knew waking up this morning I wanted to push to this hut, but was skeptical whether or not I had it in me to do my biggest day. I was out around 6:45am but didn’t make it too far before I had to dig an emergency cat hole (and I picked a field of stinging nettles to do it in… bad news). So needless to say my morning didn’t start great.

I stopped in a picnic area hoping for trail magic and got nothing but questioning looks from day hikers. I wanted to get to the Lewis Campground so I could buy myself lunch at the camp store. I got to eat with Mud Duck, Botany, and made a new cute friend named Bodega. We had a nice long lunch filled with neer and ice cream, and I left feeling confident I’d finish at the shelter.

Bodega caught up to me and we hiked the rest of the day together and chatted the whole time. I didn’t think I’d be able to keep up with him but we were cruising! We did 8 miles at a pace of 3mph… it was wild. I was able to get to the shelter before 6pm, 24 miles before 6pm! Bodega and I ate dinner together and are going to a wayside for breakfast. Yay!
